BLE Gateway Placement Around Metal Equipment
Metal surfaces and changing equipment positions can create variable reception.
Metal surfaces and changing equipment positions can create variable reception. Validate the receiver location with the real installation geometry.
Map obstructions and orientation
Record sensor orientation, enclosure material and the path to candidate gateways. Include doors, racks and moving equipment in the survey. A receiver placed inside a convenient cabinet may have a poor radio path even when physically close to the sensor.
Test during representative activity
Measure successful data reception while the production area operates normally. Compare multiple receiver positions and orientations. Record gaps and latency as well as signal strength; a strong reading at one instant does not establish sustained coverage.
Maintain a documented layout
Choose positions that can be powered, networked and serviced reliably. Label gateways and record their assigned area. Retest after machinery moves or new storage is introduced, and make gateway outages visible separately from individual sensor failures.
FAQ
Does moving a gateway closer always help?
Not always. Obstructions, orientation and reflections can make another position more effective.
