Define meaningful alarm events

Choose which machine conditions deserve an SMS and which belong only in a dashboard. Record an alarm ID, asset, severity, event time and recovery state. Debounce noisy signals before creating events. A fluctuating input should not generate hundreds of messages while the underlying condition remains unchanged.

Choose the delivery path

A local controller can submit events to a cloud messaging API or a supported cellular modem. Compare site internet access, mobile coverage, operator support and maintenance responsibilities. SMS is not an independent fallback if its modem and primary connection rely on the same failed power supply or unavailable mobile network.

Write an actionable message

Include a recognisable asset name, condition, event time and contact or response instruction. Avoid exposing sensitive operational details unnecessarily. Keep messages concise, but check segmentation and character encoding with the selected provider. Maintain recipient lists through an owner rather than embedding personal numbers in firmware.

Test receipt and response

Test alarm creation, delivery failure, recovery and an unavailable recipient. Record provider status separately from human acknowledgement. An SMS marked delivered does not prove someone read or acted on it. Assign escalation rules and verify them during a pilot; protective machine functions must remain with the appropriate local control system.
