Clear account ownership protects continuity when staff or suppliers change. Record access and recovery arrangements before launch.
Identify the critical accounts
List the registrar, DNS, hosting, email, analytics and external form services. Record the business owner and recovery contact for each. Use business-controlled accounts with appropriate access for suppliers. Keep a renewal calendar so a forgotten payment does not interrupt the domain or a required integration.
Clarify deliverables and restrictions
The agreement should identify source files, content, licensed assets and what can be transferred. Distinguish an owned domain from a licensed theme or subscription platform. Request an access inventory and backup procedure. Never use a public document to store passwords or recovery codes.
Test a supplier transition
Verify that an authorised business representative can access accounts and retrieve backups. Check how supplier access is removed without losing ownership. Preserve DNS records during a hosting move, especially email settings. A handover is complete when the business can operate the recovery process, not just when files are delivered.
