Selecting a 4G Antenna for Field Equipment
Antenna selection includes supported bands, cable losses and the installed surroundings.
Antenna selection includes supported bands, cable losses and the installed surroundings. Match the complete RF path to the modem requirements.
Check compatibility beyond the connector
Confirm frequency coverage, impedance, antenna ports and any diversity or MIMO requirements of the selected modem. A connector that fits does not prove suitability. Review the manufacturer mounting guidance and whether the antenna needs a specific ground plane.
Balance position and cable loss
A better position can be offset by excessive cable loss or damaged connectors. Compare practical cable lengths and mounting locations. Include weather exposure, strain relief and maintenance access when choosing outdoor installation hardware.
Validate the final assembly
Measure signal quality and successful application traffic at candidate positions with the enclosure closed. Test across representative operating periods. Record antenna model, cable and orientation so later replacements do not silently change the validated configuration.
FAQ
Will a higher-gain antenna always improve service?
No. Pattern, orientation, bands, cable losses and network conditions determine the result.
