Troubleshooting LoRaWAN Packet Loss
Locate the failing stage before changing radio settings.
Locate the failing stage before changing radio settings. Missing dashboard data can originate in the device, network or application.
Trace one message end to end
Use timestamps and sequence numbers to compare device transmission, gateway reception, network acceptance and application decoding. Check join status and counters. If the network receives a packet but the dashboard rejects its format, increasing radio power is not the remedy.
Compare affected devices
Look for shared gateways, firmware revisions, locations or power sources. Inspect battery voltage during transmission and antenna connections. Correlated gaps across many devices often justify checking gateway power or backhaul before replacing individual sensors.
Change one variable and retest
Record the baseline, make a targeted change and repeat the same message test. Keep a log of resets and configuration updates. Verify recovery over a representative operating period rather than declaring success after the first packet returns.
FAQ
Should I increase reporting frequency to troubleshoot?
Only within a controlled test and network constraints; indiscriminate extra traffic can complicate diagnosis.
