Cellular IoT
NB-IoT vs LTE Cat-M1 vs LTE Cat-1 for Sensors
Select cellular technology from the application and available operator service.
Select cellular technology from the application and available operator service. A module feature list does not establish coverage at your installation.
Describe the actual workload
Specify message size, reporting frequency, remote commands and firmware-update needs. Include whether the device moves and how long it can wait for communication. Low-rate sensing and an interactive gateway can have very different connectivity requirements.
Verify service and hardware together
Check supported bands, operator provisioning, SIM plan and module firmware for the intended technology. NB-IoT and LTE-M availability must be confirmed specifically; ordinary 4G coverage does not establish either service. Test the selected combination at the site.
Compare lifecycle behaviour
Measure energy, connection recovery and usable data transfer with realistic signal conditions. Include module integration, subscription and maintenance costs. Select the option that meets the measured requirement rather than treating the lowest quoted power figure as the whole decision.
FAQ
Is LTE Cat-M1 the same as ordinary 4G service?
It is part of the LTE family, but operator support and provisioning for LTE-M must be verified separately.
