Tank Monitoring
Tank-Level Calibration and Verification
Calibration adjusts a measurement relationship; verification checks whether it meets an acceptance criterion.
Calibration adjusts a measurement relationship; verification checks whether it meets an acceptance criterion. Keep both activities traceable to a defined reference.
Define the reference and tolerance
Choose a suitable reference method and the required uncertainty for the application. Record units, reference position and process conditions. Do not use the dashboard value as its own reference or adjust the sensor merely to match an unverified manual estimate.
Check several operating points
Compare readings at representative low, middle and high levels where practical. Verify sensor output, gateway scaling and volume conversion separately. Record readings before adjustment so a wiring or geometry error is not hidden by changing the calibration offset.
Document results and follow-up
Store reference details, as-found and as-left results, responsible person and configuration changes. Define recheck triggers such as sensor replacement or tank modification. Set intervals from process needs, manufacturer guidance and observed stability rather than an arbitrary universal schedule.
FAQ
Is a one-point offset check always enough?
No. It may miss span errors, nonlinear conversion problems or faults elsewhere in the measurement chain.
