Adaptive Data Rate: When to Review It
ADR adjusts link parameters using network observations.
ADR adjusts link parameters using network observations. Its usefulness depends on how stable the device radio conditions are.
Understand the deployment pattern
A stationary sensor with a stable path differs from a sensor on moving equipment. Record expected movement and changing obstructions before enabling automatic optimisation. Do not assume a parameter selected during commissioning remains suitable after machinery or storage layouts change.
Inspect outcomes rather than flags
Review data rate, transmit settings, delivery gaps and battery behaviour over time. Check the network implementation and device response when ADR commands are sent. An enabled setting does not show whether the system is actually adapting as intended.
Re-evaluate after changes
Repeat representative measurements after relocating devices or gateways. Keep before-and-after records and allow the network behaviour to be observed over a meaningful period. Choose conservative operating decisions for variable paths based on evidence, not a single strong reception event.
FAQ
Does ADR guarantee reliable delivery?
No. Coverage, interference, gateway availability and application design still affect delivery.
